About Us

The RIALA Senior Living Institute, a unique and distinguished nonprofit 501(c)(3) institute, was founded in 2019 by the leadership team of the Rhode Island Assisted Living Association. The institute's establishment marked a significant step toward addressing the evolving needs of the aging population through a focused mission of promoting healthy aging, enhancing care for older adults, and advancing the assisted living industry.

The founding of the Institute was driven by a clear vision to create a dedicated educational platform that could integrate senior living and healthcare industry expertise with evidence-based research. The Rhode Island Assisted Living Association's leadership team recognized the critical gaps in health education and research concerning older adults and sought to build an institution capable of addressing these challenges. Their goal was to leverage a pool of experts to educate the public, promote health education, and ultimately improve health outcomes among older adults, with a special emphasis on supporting low-income and minority groups.

The RIALA Senior Living Institute operates with a multifaceted mission. It is committed to promoting healthy aging through its educational programs and resources, which are designed to enhance the quality of life for older adults by applying evidence-based practices and advancements in gerontology. The Institute also aims to improve care for older adults by developing innovative educational and workforce initiatives that enhance caregiving practices, improve service delivery, and support the professional development of individuals working in senior care settings.

In addition to its focus on direct care improvements, the Institute plays a crucial role in advancing the assisted living industry. Through its educational and research initiatives, RIALA addresses industry challenges, promotes best practices, and fosters continuous improvement in senior living environments. The Institute’s efforts, supported by strategic partnerships with academic institutions and other external stakeholders, facilitate rigorous research on aging and senior care, driving the development of effective interventions and policies based on solid evidence.

The Institute's commitment to advancing evidence-based research is evident in its partnerships with academic entities and other external stakeholders, which enable the conduct of research that addresses critical issues in aging and senior care. This research informs the development of educational materials, best practices, and policy recommendations.

Addressing workforce needs is another central focus of the Institute. By developing educational programs and training opportunities, RIALA aims to tackle workforce needs, improve retention, and equip caregivers with the necessary skills and knowledge. The Institute’s efforts are designed to enhance the capabilities of professionals in senior care settings, ensuring that they are well-prepared to meet the needs of older adults.
